About Lauren Morton, LCSW
Adolescent and Adult Therapy
Education
I am a licensed psychotherapist located in Carlsbad, California. I have 17 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults, individuals and families. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Art degree in Psychology from Brown University and obtained my Master’s of Science in Social Work from Columbia University. I regularly participate in trainings, consultation and workshops to enhance my knowledge and clinical skills and to ensure I am providing my clients with the most effective treatments.
Experience
In addition to my private counseling practice, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings. While living in New York City, I trained at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center, a renowned outpatient mental health treatment facility for children and teens. I also volunteered at the Crime Victims Treatment Center of New York providing crisis counseling to survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence. Upon moving to California, I worked as a therapist at the San Diego Center for Children, Clark Adolescent Treatment Center, a residential facility for severely emotionally disturbed youth. I have provided school based therapy in the San Diego Unified School District and worked as a therapist at Rady Children’s Hospital Outpatient Psychiatry Department.
Therapeutic Approach
In my psychotherapy practice, I use an integrated therapeutic approach in which I combine elements of several different therapeutic modalities. This allows me to provide a personalized approach to therapy rather than adhering to a specific therapeutic orientation or a “one size fits all approach”. Some of the techniques I utilize include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Specializations
I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, college students and adults to manage depression, anxiety, and other psychological conditions. I also work regularly with those looking to enhance their quality of life or gain insight into their behaviors or relationships. I am certified in EMDR and work those who have PTSD or have experienced traumatic life events.
